FINAL PROJECT

Animated Infographics

On the first Information Design class, we were divided into groups of 7 people for our final project. We were asked to research and condense the given script and develop a suitable visual narrative to deliver an awareness motion graphic video about the topic Burnout. Basically, we have to create an animation for the given script, and we have to produce the outcome as an informative video using the audio provided.

Group 2.5
1. Oon Shan Nen (Team Leader)
2. Tay Kai Wei
3. Ng Jia Xien
4. Tan Yi-Tyng
5. Rachel Caroline Leslie
6. Feng Wei Jie
7. Ye Xin Yan

Visual Research

At the start of this project, Mr Martin assigned us to create a mood board on what style we wanted to go for with the project. What style would suit the audience? What colour scheme should be implemented, etc. were questions we had in mind. After some browsing, we created a mood board on Miro.

Script breakdown

On week 3, Mr Martin gave us a storyboard breakdown template. We started noting down the scenes starting from the running time, duration, topic, script breakdown, and notes on what graphical objects we would create in each scene. Every member of our group did this according to their own part.

Basically, our team members separate into two groups, one group will be in charge of visual suggestion for each scene, while the other group will doing the sketches. And I was given to do the visual suggestion part, three of us discussed together and gather the ideas in Miro. Then, the other members started to sketch out the scenes.

Animatic

After completing all the sketches for the scenes, our team leader compile all the sketches attached with voice-over in Premiere Pro to create an animatic.

Moving to the next part, we started to create the assets in AI, our leader separate the tasks equally and I choose to do the assets for scenes 2A to 3D.

After getting feedback, our groups decided to make some adjustments to the asset’s art style. The assets outline was removed and changed to more like a hand drawing style.

Animating

Moreover, we divided the workload into 3 groups, one group will be in charge to refine all the assets, one group will be doing the animation, while another will be designing the background, adding music and compiling everything.

And I was asked to do the animation for scenes 2A-3f & 6A in After Effects. After completing animate the scenes, I adjust the background to transparent, so it will be much easier for another member to add the background.

FEEDBACK

WEEK 6 - Animatic

  • Some of the scenes need to add keyword, so that the viewer can understand the keypoint, just a short and simple words needed.
  • Some scenes too simple can't show  the context clearly

REFLECTION

With this project, I was able to learn how to create a good motion graphic video in a team. I am very grateful for the group I found, as everyone provided insightful opinions and teamwork which benefitted us all, allowing us to learn more together, than we would have if we just did it ourselves.

I am sure this project will definitely benefit us in the future. For that, I am tremendously thankful
