LECTURES
WEEK 1 ( What is Motion Graphic? )

WEEK 2 ( Kinetic Typography )
Fig. 1.2 - Week 2 Lectures Notes
In this week 2 class, Mr Martin teaching us on how to create kinetic
typography using After Effects, which was very helpful and we can apply
the things we learnt on our group project.

Following the google sheet provided by Mr Martin in week 3
class, I was assigned to category C which to create a motion
graphic bar chart.

WEEK 4 ( Vector / Character animation )
Fig. 1.11 - Week 4 Lecture Notes
In week 4 classes, Mr Martin taught us how to animate vectors and
characters in After Effect. First, we need to arrange the layers in
illustrator and then import them to After Effects. We used the
basic transform properties such as position, scale and rotation to
create bounce effects. Moreover, we also learned some advanced animation
such as wiggle and puppet position pin tools.

PROJECT 2.1
Kinetic Typography
For this group project, we have to animate a lyrics video and we have
the freedom to choose any song. After discussion, each member suggests
the songs that we prefer and in the end, our group decided to choose
“Look what you made me do” by Taylor Swift. As we are inspired by the
official animated lyric video that looks very interesting and we like
the concept of the song.

Then, we begin with dividing the workload into verses and chorus
parts.

After distributing the lyrics, we created a mood board on miro
containing the colour schemes and font styles we would be using for
the animation.

After that, we set off to do our own parts. Verse 2 is the part I have
chosen to animate.
As I’m not so familiar with After Effects yet, so I went on YouTube to
search for lots of tutorials to learn how to come out with interesting
kinetic typography. Below are some of the tutorials that help me a
lot.

Then, I begin to animate my part in after effect.

After all of our team members complete their parts, we uploaded them
on google drive and our team leader will compiling all the clips
together to complete the whole song.

PROJECT 2.2
Motion Graphic Chart
For this exercise, our task was to create a motion graphic animation
of a specific type of chart assigned to us. Firstly, Mr. Martin
showed us the slides that demonstrate how to do the animations for
these charts and they included demonstrative YouTube videos. I was
assigned to create an animation bar chart according to the google
sheet.

PROJECT 2.3
Vector / Character Animation
For this task, we are asked to use the asset provided in google
drive to animate the character. Same with the previous task, I was
given the group C assets. And we must apply the bounce effect,
motion blur, and easy ease for keyframe, wiggle or puppet position
pin tool.

FEEDBACK
WEEK 4 - Kinetic Typography
Good job, you guys can ready to submit it.
REFLECTION
I really had fun doing the exercises and practicals, and I'm happy that I managed to finish all of the exercises even though there are so many of them. And by doing Mr. Martin's practicals, I found new tricks that made everything easier in AE: null object & puppet tool. The kinetic typography was tiring but I can see why Mr. Martin wanted us to do it. It helped me a lot to figure things out in AE, so when I do the final project, I'm already familiar with the tools. The practicals really made me enjoy AI and AE even more.
