TASK 1

Trending Experience (Lectures & Class Exercise)

WEEK 1

Public Holiday

WEEK 2

Briefing of the Module & Install Unity Hub

For our first class, Mr. Razif provided us with a brief introduction to the module, offering detailed explanations of the tasks, the subject outline, and the expectations. Additionally, Mr. Razif showed us several examples of work from seniors, allowing us to gain a clear understanding of the design ideas for our upcoming project.

Moving forward, Mr. Razif introduced us to the software Unity Hub and guided us step by step on how to install it. It was emphasized that careful attention should be paid to the version we download and the device we use for building, as these factors are crucial.

WEEK 3

Introduction to Experiential Design & User Journey Map

For this week, we had a lecture introducing us to Experiential Design and providing a detailed explanation of the importance of User Experience design. Mr. Razif also introduced us to User Mapping and Journey Mapping to help us understand the experiences of users or customers and how to enhance the quality of their overall experience and ensure a positive interaction between users and products or services. By understanding these concepts, we are better equipped to create designs that not only meet functional requirements but also resonate with users on a deeper level, ultimately improving the overall user experience.

After the lecture section, we were assigned to form a group and collaborate to create a user journey map for visiting a location while implementing an augmented reality (AR) experience to address challenges and enhance the overall user experience. I proposed the idea of selecting a hospital as our focus, and our group unanimously agreed. We proceeded to distribute tasks and utilized Miro to collectively work on our parts.

WEEK 4

Intro to Unity & Vuforia Engine

For this week, we were guided on how to use Unity Hub, building on the installation from the previous week. Mr. Razif explained each aspect of the workspace interface and the functions of each tool in Unity in great detail. Subsequently, we were instructed to download the Vuforia package and import it into Unity. To fully utilize the tools provided by the Vuforia engine, we were guided on adding a license key in the inspector section in Unity.

*Due to my oversight in not capturing the process when completing this class exercise, I decided to redo it, this time recording the entire process.

What I have learned is how to create an image target by importing the database from Vuforia. I then created a cube as the object, and to make it more interesting, I added an animation for the cube to move when scanned. To have control over the animation, whether the object is moving or static, I created a canvas by adding UI buttons with options to move the object, rotate the object, or stop its rotation.

WEEK 6

Build To Device

This week, we were guided on how to export our Unity project app to our phones. We needed to ensure that the scenes were added in the build settings and the project settings in the player settings were all configured according to Mr. Razif's instructions. After making these adjustments, we could proceed to build the app on our phones. It took me a few weeks to resolve an issue, and I finally solved it by updating the version of Unity Hub.

WEEK 7

User Interface, Button & Scene Change

For this particular tutorial class, our main focus is on designing the user interface. Mr. Razif provided us with sources for a few button designs, and our task is to replace the original buttons with the provided designs. Furthermore, we have the opportunity to create animations for the buttons, enhancing the user experience when they hover over them. Additionally, we can establish links for the scenes, ensuring that when users click a button, it will lead them to another scene.

**I did not try to build it on a device, as I wanted to test out the hover effect on the button. This hover effect can only be performed on a desktop with a cursor. And below is the outcome:

WEEK 8

Independent Learning Week

WEEK 9

Ground Plan Detection

For this particular week, Mr. Razif guided us on how to create a ground plane scan, where the system detects the ground, and upon scanning, an object instantly appears. The process involves creating a plane finder layer, followed by setting up a ground plane stage. Afterward, we can insert a 3D model as a child of the Ground Plane Stage layer. I replaced the 3D model object with the Eiffel Tower to test it for my project. To enhance user engagement, we can attach a script that allows users to pinch and scale the object.

WEEK 10 - WEEK 14

Working on our own project & consultation with Mr Razif.

REFLECTION

To be honest, at the beginning of the semester, I felt overwhelmed as I had no prior knowledge of how to use Unity, and it was entirely new to me. As a slow learner, I found it challenging to keep up during tutorial classes. Thankfully, my classmates guided me, and I practiced extensively while also watching numerous YouTube tutorials to become familiar with the software.

I was particularly worried during the four weeks I spent trying to build the app on a device without success. A big thanks to Mr. Razif for helping me resolve this issue by suggesting an update to the software version, and it finally worked.

Overall, the knowledge gained through the tutorial class was very helpful. However, personally, I believe that we also need to spend additional time learning independently to become more familiar with the software and apply the knowledge to their projects.
